What is Kundli matching?

Kundli matching is a traditional astrological way to study compatibility from two sets of birth details. KundliLive calculates the Moon sign, Nakshatra and D1 Mars placement for both people, then presents the Ashtakoota score and Manglik status.

What is Ashtakoota matching?

Ashtakoota compares eight Kootas: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. KundliLive shows each Koota score and status so you can see what sits behind the total.

How do the 36 points add up?

The eight Kootas carry maximum scores of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Together they total 36. Higher-weight Kootas affect the result more, so two matches with the same total can still have a different score pattern.

The eight Kootas

Each Koota considers a different traditional aspect of compatibility.

Varna

1/1

Compares the traditional level of mental and spiritual disposition. It carries the smallest weight of one point.

Vashya

2/2

Uses traditional Rashi groups to consider mutual influence, cooperation and the natural dynamic between two people.

Tara

3/3

Uses the distance between the two birth Nakshatras to assess traditional Tara compatibility and auspiciousness.

Yoni

4/4

Compares the symbolic Yoni associated with each Nakshatra as a traditional indicator of instinctive nature and intimacy.

Graha Maitri

5/5

Looks at the natural relationship between the lords of the two Moon signs as an indicator of mental rapport.

Gana

6/6

Compares Deva, Manushya and Rakshasa Gana classifications to consider temperament and response style.

Bhakoot

7/7

Evaluates the relative positions of the Moon signs, with particular review of the traditional 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 relationships.

Nadi

8/8

Compares the three Nakshatra-based Nadis. It carries the highest weight, and the same Nadi traditionally calls for closer review.

How many points are considered good?

The current KundliLive result treats below 18 as needing detailed review, 18–21.5 as acceptable, 22–27.5 as good and 28 or more as very good. These are traditional reference bands, not a final decision.

Why are the 36 points not enough by themselves?

One total does not show where points were gained or lost. Beyond Ashtakoota, communication, consent, life goals, health, family context and other factors in both complete charts remain important.

Manglik consideration

KundliLive marks Manglik status when Mars occupies house 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12 in the D1 chart, then reports whether the two statuses are balanced or different. Detailed exceptions or cancellations require a broader chart review.

Why accurate birth time and place matter

The Moon sign and Nakshatra drive Ashtakoota, while the house occupied by Mars depends on the Ascendant. Accurate date, time, place, coordinates and timezone make boundary-sensitive results more reliable.

Kundli matching FAQs

Short answers about the score, birth details and result.

Is Kundli matching free on KundliLive?

Yes. Enter accurate birth details for both people to see the Ashtakoota score, all eight Koota scores and Manglik status without a fee.

What details are required for Kundli matching?

Enter the name, birth date, exact birth time and birth place of both people. Select each place from the suggestions so the correct coordinates and timezone are used.

What is the maximum score in Ashtakoota matching?

The eight Kootas add up to a maximum of 36 points. Each Koota carries a different weight, and KundliLive shows its obtained and maximum score separately.

Is a score of 18 considered sufficient for marriage?

Traditionally, 18 or more points are treated as an acceptable reference, but the number is not a final decision by itself. Practical compatibility and a complete chart review also matter.

Does a low score mean the couple cannot marry?

No. A low score suggests that the match deserves closer review. Consent, communication, health, family context, life goals and other factors in both complete charts remain important.

Does the matching result include Manglik status?

Yes. KundliLive derives Manglik status from the house occupied by Mars in each D1 chart and indicates whether the two statuses are balanced or different.

Can an incorrect birth time affect the score?

Yes, especially when the Moon is close to a Rashi or Nakshatra boundary. The Ascendant-based house position used for Manglik status also depends on accurate birth time and place.

Does a 36-point score guarantee a successful marriage?

No. It is a traditional astrological reference, not a guarantee of a relationship or marriage outcome. Mutual consent and real-life compatibility remain essential.
